to present ‘Godspell’ April 19-21 |
The
Troy State University Department of Speech and Theatre will present
the hit musical "Godspell" beginning April 19-21 at the Claudia Crosby
Theater on the TSU campus, according to Adena Moree, director.
Performances are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., on Friday,
April 19 and Saturday, April 20, with a matinee performance set for 2:30 p.m.
on Sunday, April 21. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for TSU students
with identification card.

The Department of Speech and Theatre annually teams with the
John M. Long School of Music to present a major musical. TSU has staged some
of the most popular musicals in Broadway history, including, "A Chorus Line," "West
Side Story," Oliver" and "Hello, Dolly!"
"Godspell," based on the Gospel according to St. Matthew, tells
the life of Jesus and his Disciples by using music, comedy, mime and slapstick.
The play features some of the best-known tunes of American music theater, including "Day
by Day," "Save the People" and "Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord."
"Godspell" was conceived and originally directed by John Michael
Tebelak. It opened at the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York City on May 17, 1971.
It moved to the Promenade Theatre where it played for 2,124 performances before
moving to Broadway in 1976. Godspell then played for an additional 527 performances
on Broadway.
