Best-selling author to return to TSU as writer in-residence

Francine Pascal, whose books for children and teenagers are known around the world, will serve as a special writer-in-residence for the Troy State University Department of English April 9-12.
Pascal, whose "Sweet Valley High" juvenile series has sold more than 250 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 25 languages, will discuss her writing career during an appearance Thursday, April 11, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Colley Senior Complex. The event is open to the public and no admission fee will be charged.
Pascal visited TSU for a lecture last April. In her return visit as writer-in-residence, she will hold writing workshops with TSU English and creative writing students. She will also discuss New York City’s musical theater with drama and speech majors. In addition, Pascal will hold writing workshops for students at Pike County High School in Brundidge, Charles Henderson High School in Troy, Banks Middle School and Coppinville Junior High School in Enterprise.
"Ms. Pascal’s visit will allow our students to meet one of the most successful writers in the world," said Dr. Harold Kaylor, Chair of the Department of English. "I am sure they will benefit from this unique opportunity for direct interaction with her."
Pascal’s "Sweet Valley High" series has grown to more than 700 volumes. The series, whose principal characters, Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, are two of the best-known characters in juvenile literature, has been developed into a syndicated television show as well.
In addition to the "Sweet Valley High" series, Pascal is the author of eight novels and has collaborated in writing the book for several Broadway productions, including "Mack and Mabel" and "George M!." She lives in New York City and southern France.
