welcomes new Interim Director of Articulation |

State University Vice Chancellor Michael Malone has announced
that Dr. Ed D. Roach has joined TSU as interim Director of the
Alabama Articulation program.
Dr. Roach comes to TSU with a distinguished career in higher
education in both administrative and teaching positions. He taught previously
for TSU in Europe as a Visiting Professor of Management.
As interim Director of Articulation, Dr. Roach will oversee
the Statewide Articulation Reporting System (STARS), which is a computerized
articulation and transfer planning system designed to inform students who attend
Alabama’s two-year colleges about degree requirements, course equivalents
and other transfer information for Alabama’s public universities. Dr. Roach
has worked with the Articulation and General Studies Committee in his role as
Provost and represented the Alabama regional university presidents as a voting
member of the committee.

DR. ROACH'S BIO
Dr. Ed D. Roach comes to TSU after serving as President of
The University of West Alabama since fall 1998. Prior to his appointment as President,
Dr. Roach served as UWA’s Provost from 1994-1998.
Dr. Roach began his academic career as a teaching assistant
in the Department of Management at the University of Texas at Austin. In 1970,
he joined the faculty of Stephen F. Austin State University as Chair of the Department
of Management. In 1977-78, he took a leave of absence to serve as Visiting Professor
of Management for the Troy State University European Division. In 1979, Dr. Roach
became Dean of the School of Business at Southwest Texas State University. As
Dean at Southwest Texas State, he established the school’s first business
advisory council, composed of outstanding regional and national leaders, and
coordinated the development of the school’s strategic plan.
From 1984 through 1990, Dr. Roach served as President of West
Texas State University. During his tenure at West Texas State, a three-year strategic
plan was put into place and the first capital campaign in school history was
launched. Dr. Roach cites his most significant accomplishment at West Texas State
as the university’s successful merger with the Texas A&M University
System. He became Associate Deputy Chancellor for Academic Program Planning for
the Texas A&M University System in 1991. At the Texas A&M University
System, Dr. Roach coordinated the strategic planning process for the system’s
seven universities and eight agencies.
Over his career, Dr. Roach has worked as a consultant in strategic
planning for many organizations, both in the public and private sector and has
also been involved with numerous professional organizations. During his tenure
in Alabama, he was elected twice as Chair of the Council of Chief Academic Officers.
He has also served on a number of committees for the Alabama Commission for Higher
Education, including strategic planning.
Dr. Roach served as a member of the Executive Committee of
the Council of Presidents in Texas from 1989-1990, Chair of the Lone Star Conference
Council of Presidents from 1988-1989, a Director of the Texas Commerce Bank of
Amarillo, Chairman of the Board for the Texas Council on Economic Education,
a member of the Editorial Board for the Case Research Association, a member of
the Committee on Conferences and Professional Development for the American Association
of State College and Universities from 1985-1990, and a member of the Formula
Advisory Committee for the Texas Higher Education Coordination Board from 1984-1991.
The New Boston, Texas, native attended the University of North
Texas, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He received his Ph.D.
from the University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Roach is married to the former Darlene Hughes of Amarillo,
Texas. They have two sons, Chris and Jason, and one daughter, Tiffany Roach Welty.
