Judy
Morgan named McKinley Award winner at TSU for May
|
One
of the most loyal fans of Troy State University athletics is
the winner of the Vergil Parks McKinley Award for May at TSU.
Judy Morgan, secretary to Larry Blakeney, head football coach,
received the award in a ceremony Wednesday, May 22 at the Hawkins-Adams-Long
Hall of Honor. Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor made the presentation.
The McKinley Award, the highest honor that TSU gives to a non-faculty
staff member, is presented monthly to an employee who has demonstrated outstanding
attitude, innovation and work ethic. The award was established by former Texaco
CEO John McKinley in honor of his father, Vergil Parks McKinley, who was a TSU
professor during the early 20th century and was key to the development of the
university’s athletic program. Award winners receive an engraved clock
and a $300 stipend.
Blakeney praised Morgan for her exceptional attitude and work
ethic.
"Judy’s attitude is her greatest attribute," he said. "It’s
important that you have a good attitude in any job you do. Judy Morgan is very
special to all of us in athletics."
Blakeney said that Morgan "does not count hours" on the job.
She is a fixture at most Trojan athletic events, supporting each program.
Morgan, who joined the TSU staff in 1994, said she loves her
work with the coaches and other staff members in athletics.
"It’s an honor to be recognized for what you do, because
I love what I do," she said.
She also recalled her job interview with Johnny Williams, TSU
Director of Athletics.
"I told him that he could hire anybody he wants to, but on
Monday I’m moving my desk to the athletic department," she said. |
