TSU SEAL teachers nominated for special recognition

Two Pike County High School teachers who also teach distance education classes for Troy State University’s Southeast Alabama Technology Network (SEAL) have been nominated for teacher of the year honors in a competition sponsored by Wal-Mart, Inc.
Sylvia Helms and Mary-Kellie Kelly, teachers at Pike County High School in Brundidge, were nominated by the SEAL Network staff, according to Dr. Debbie Fortune, Associate Dean of Distance Learning.
"Ms. Helms and Ms. Kelley are valuable members of our SEAL Network," Dr. Fortune said. "They are doing excellent jobs and we thought it was important that they receive this recognition."
SEAL uses the Internet and videoconferencing to provide classroom instruction to students in 12 counties in southeast Alabama. SEAL also provides training for area business and industry through distance learning.
Ms. Helms has taught art and Latin at PCHS for nine years. Ms. Kelley has taught English and Spanish at PCHS for 11 years.
