TSU to celebrate International Education Week
Troy State University’s Office of International Programs has scheduled several activities to celebrate International Education Week Nov. 18-22.
TSU emphasizes International Education Week because students from 58 countries are enrolled on the Troy campus, according to Curt Porter Dean of International Programs. Dr. Porter said the number of international students enrolled at TSU this fall increased 10 percent over fall semester 2001.
The centerpiece of the week’s events will be the "Flavors of the World" fair on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Amphitheater beginning at 5 p.m. Students from India, Syria, Japan, China, Russia and other nations will bring dishes from their native lands to share with fellow students, faculty and staff and members of the Troy community. The students will also wear native clothing to the event, according to Cathy Pobanz, International Student Adviser. There is no admission charge
Other events scheduled include a soccer tournament featuring five teams of international students and the TSU soccer team. The finals are set for 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17.
The Chinese Students Association will help their counterparts from other lands learn key phrases in Chinese, such as greetings, at the Trojan Center Food Court Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 11 a.m. until 1:15 p.m.
International students will also visit students at Charles Henderson Middle School and visit with local media to promote awareness of the week.
