‘Sounds
of the Season’ holiday concert to ring Dec. 3
Christmas will come wrapped in song to the Troy community
this year as more than 200 performers from Troy State University’s
John M. Long School of Music will present the "Sounds of the Season" holiday
concert Tuesday, Dec. 3.
The performance, which is a part of the Troy Council on the
Arts and Humanities season series, is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the
Claudia Crosby Theater, located on the TSU campus.
Tickets are $5 for general admission and can be purchased in
the Adams University Center box office. For additional information, contact the
John M. Long School of Music at (334) 670-3322.
"We’re pleased to feature so many of our talented students
from both the vocal and instrumental areas of our program," Dr. William Denison,
Director of the school of music, said.
The concert will feature performances by all instrumental ensembles
and choral groups in the school of music and offer a broad range of traditional,
sacred and secular musical selections, including the African folk song "African
Noel," the Christmas medley "A Christmas Festival" and a humorous arrangement
of the classic "Jingle Bells."
According to Paul McGahie, Director of Choral Activities, the
concert is a rare opportunity to enjoy diverse groups such as the saxophone,
flute and clarinet ensembles. The Troy Children’s Chorus will also take
part in the show, appearing under the direction of Associate Professor of Music
Dr. Catherine Allard.
"These groups will create a seamless concert of holiday music," Dr.
Denison said. "The diversity of the show provides everyone with something to
enjoy."
The TSU Symphony Band, conducted by Ralph Ford, Director of
Bands, and James Smith, Associate Conductor, the Jazz Ensemble, the TSU Collegiate
Singers and the TSU Chamber Choir, led by McGahie, the Gospel Choir, and the
Women’s Madrigals, under the direction of Dr. Allard, will all perform
in the concert.
"Sounds," one of the school’s most popular and interactive
shows of the season, will culminate with caroling and a tree-lighting ceremony
on the Bibb Graves quad. Refreshments will be provided.
