TSU
chosen for visit from Walt Disney College Program recruiters
Students interested in participating in the Walt Disney
College Program’s Spring Internship will have a chance to meet
with recruiters and learn about the program when company representatives
visit the Troy State University campus Tuesday, Oct. 29. All majors,
regardless of classification, are invited to attend the 6 p.m. presentation
in Crosby Theater.
"It’s been two or three years since they visited our
campus. Last time, they recruited several of our students for their program," said
Jay Skipworth, a Career Counselor at TSU.
According to information published by program representatives,
the internship is a "Disney-designed combination of education and work experience" that
will afford participants the opportunity to "build transferable skills, explore
networking opportunities at the Walt Disney World Resort, interact with people
from all over the world and enjoy privileges of being a cast member at the resort." The
program also offers participants classes recommended for credit by the American
Council on Education.
"It really is a great experience," Skipworth said.
Troy State is one of numerous colleges and universities that
Disney representatives are visiting across the nation in their efforts to organize
a culturally diverse intern force. Dress for the event is casual, and students
are not required to bring a resume, Skipworth said.
The College Program is a paid internship with overtime compensation.
Participation in the program qualifies alumni for an Advanced Internship position
with Walt Disney World, which grants college students the chance to gain career
related work experience in a Fortune 100 company. "In most instances, the program
serves as a springboard in launching a successful career," Disney representatives
said.
