TSU choral program to present ‘Kaleidoscope’ Oct. 15
The choral program of Troy State University’s John M. Long School of Music will present the second annual "Fall Choral Kaleidoscope Concert" on Tuesday, Oct. 15, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Claudia Crosby Theater on the TSU campus.
The concert is open to the public and is free of charge. The concert takes its name from the variety of groups—and the wide variety of styles of music—in the production, said Paul McGahie, director of choral activities at TSU.
"We will present a wide variety of musical styles, from classical to gospel to Broadway to spirituals to folksongs," McGahie said.
The ensembles scheduled to perform are the Collegiate Singers, Chamber Choir, Women’s Madrigals, Gospel Choir, under the direction of John Molette, and the Troy Children’s Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Catherine Allard. Dr. Hal Fulmer, Dean of the College of Communication and Fine Arts, will be the host of this year’s concert.
Highlights of the concert will include the Collegiate Singers performing Tchaikovsky’s "Cherubic Hymn" in Russian and a special eight-part arrangement of the gospel classic "He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands."
The Chamber Choir will perform music from the American West, a cycle of four colorful songs titled "Four Pastorales," with words and music by western American artists. Solo oboist Ashlie Keylon, a senior from Kingston, Tenn., will accompany the choir.
The Gospel Choir will perform contemporary gospel numbers and traditional spirituals, while the Women’s Madrigals will perform a special popular number, McGahie said.
