TSU
annual risk management/insurance symposium planned Oct. 18-19
The Risk Management and Insurance Studies Program of Troy State
University will hold its third annual Insurance Symposium on the TSU campus Oct.18-19.
The event, which will feature presentations from prominent business and state
agency representatives, is scheduled to begin at 8:15 a.m. on both days.
Dr. Carol Jordan, Eminent Scholar in Risk Management and Insurance,
said the symposium will "serve to introduce business students to insurance topics
that are pertinent but generally are not covered in the classroom." The event
will also afford participants the opportunity to interact with fellow university
students and industry executives interested in students of insurance for possible
jobs or internships.
Dr. Jordan said the symposium will be of value to industry
professionals as well, providing them with "interesting topics and the opportunity
to earn eight hours of continuing education credit for the state of Alabama."
Educational sessions are scheduled for all of Saturday, and
the topics are "Terrorism Coverage and Captive Insurers," "Surplus Lines Insurance
Regulation," "The Surplus Lines Distribution System," "Lloyd’s of London
Worldwide Markets," and "Managing Your Insurance Career." Alabama’s Insurance
Commissioner, David Parsons, will address attendees at the luncheon also planned
for Saturday.
Other presenters for this year’s symposium include George
Trotti, Risk Manager for Coca-Cola Bottling; Kendel Lyman, Executive Director
of Surplus Lines Association of Washington; Marcus Payne, retired COO of Crump
Insurance Services and NAPSLO Educational Coordinator; Darragh Gray, Executive
Director at Lloyd’s of London Worldwide Markets; Richard Bouhan, Executive
Director of NAPSLO; and Amy Sabiers, Director of Training, Scottsdale Insurance.
Dr. Jordan said she expects this year’s event to surpass
the success of last year’s RMI symposium, which included students and professors
from University of Georgia, Florida State University, University of Louisiana-Lafayette,
Southern Mississippi, University of North Texas, University of New Orleans, Virginia
Commonwealth University, LSU-Shreveport, Mississippi State University, Middle
Tennessee State University, and University of Louisiana-Monroe, in addition to
students from TSU.
