Clark wins TSU McKinley Award for March
Loretta Clark, who has worked as an administrative
assistant in the Office of Alumni Affairs since 1995, has been named
the winner of the Vergil Parks McKinley Award for March at Troy State
University.
Clark received the award Monday, March 31, in a ceremony in
the Hawkins-Adam-Long Hall of Honor. Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor, presented
the award.
The McKinley Award, the highest honor that TSU gives to a non-faculty
staff member, is presented monthly to an employee who has demonstrated outstanding
attitude, innovation and work ethic. The award was established by former Texaco
CEO John McKinley in honor of his father, Vergil Parks McKinley, who was a TSU
professor during the early 20th century and was key to the development of the
university’s athletic program. Award winners receive an engraved clock
and a $300 stipend.
In her letter of nomination, Faith Ward, Director of Alumni
Affairs, said that Clark is an invaluable member of the alumni affairs team.
“Loretta Clark is a very motivated and enthusiastic employee,” Ward
said. “She is an excellent problem-solver and does her job to the best
of her ability each and every day.”
Clark said receiving the McKinley Award is special because
it means someone cares enough to notice her work.
“It makes me feel like the employees are appreciated,” she
said. “All of a sudden, you feel like someone has noticed.”
She said getting the opportunity to talk with alumni is the
best part of her job.
“I like hearing about how much they love Troy State,” she
said. “We have lots of alumni who really love this university.”
In addition to her job at TSU, Clark is working toward a degree
in political science. Clark, a native of Troy, is a graduate of Pike County High
School. She and her husband, Charlie Clark, live in Troy. She has two children,
Tameca Roberson, 27, and Hakim Batie, 23.
