   TSU bands plan spring tour
The Troy State University Symphony Band and Chamber Winds have scheduled three concerts in southeast Alabama and northwest Florida for April 8-10, according to Ralph Ford, Director of Bands.
The annual spring tour provides the opportunity to showcase the band program to audiences composed of high school band students, Ford said.
“We’ll perform before students from anywhere from three to eight different high school band programs at each stop,” Ford said. “The point is to showcase the symphonic side of our band program to students who are already participating in a music program. Most students only get the chance to see our marching band perform.”
The band will perform at Andalusia High School, Arnold High School in Panama City Beach, Fla., and Crestview, Fla. High School. Ford said the concerts will be varied, including classical pieces by Rossini, Percy Grainger and Erik Whitaker and several jazz numbers.
The Symphony Band is conducted by Ford and James Smith, Associate Professor of Music, while the Chamber Winds will be conducted by Ford and Mark Walker, Assistant Director of Bands.
   The concert schedule is:
Tuesday, April 8, at Andalusia High School beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday, April 9, at Arnold High School beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Thursday, April 10, at Crestview High School beginning at 9:30 a.m.
