Accounting professor receives first Malone Award at TSU
Dr. Steve Grice, associate professor of accounting at Troy State University, has been named the first recipient of the Wallace D. Malone, Jr., Distinguished Faculty Award.
Dr. Grice, a native of Troy and member of the TSU faculty since 1997, received the award from Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor of Troy State University, at the annual Faculty Convocation Aug. 15.
“Dr. Grice has shown a willingness to embrace new technologies and be innovative in the classroom,” Chancellor Hawkins said in presenting the award. “In addition, this professor is a prolific writer of journal articles that contribute to the study of the best methods and practices of accounting.”
The Wallace D. Malone Award is made possible through an endowment of $100,000 donated by the SouthTrust Corporation. Wallace Malone, Chairman of the Board and CEO of SouthTrust Corporation, served as a TSU trustee from 1975-1995.
The Award will be presented twice a year to honor faculty members for outstanding teaching, public service, publications and research. Faculty can be nominated by their deans, department chairs or their peers, and a committee makes the final selection.
Any full-time faculty member from any Troy State University campus or site is eligible to receive the award, which consists of a trophy, a medallion to be worn with academic regalia and a $1,500 cash prize.
“This is certainly a great honor,” Dr. Grice said. “It is also a great responsibility to uphold the integrity of this award not only in the classroom but also in my research and public service.”
