Troy State University's accreditation reaffirmed by SACS
The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) announced the reaffirmation of accreditation of Troy State University during its annual meeting in Nashville, Tenn. Tuesday.
The announcement comes on the heels of a three-year process by the university that included self study and peer review. In April, a team composed of university professors and administrators from around the Southeast conducted a four-day “inspection” of the main campus in Troy and the branch campus in Phenix City. The Troy visit followed a review of University College sites in February. After the April visit, a report that included 13 recommendations and two commendations was issued by the visiting team.
Troy State University was commended for its outreach efforts within the community, as well as its Southeast Alabama (SEAL) Technology Network, a partnership that links the university with rural and economically disadvantaged public school districts through an interactive videoconferencing classroom system. Following the April visit, TSU officials submitted a report addressing the recommendations to SACS.
Troy State University Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. labeled the reaffirmation a “tremendous endorsement” of the university.
“A team of almost 300 administrators, faculty and staff worked hard for three years preparing for this visit, but the principles that SACS stands for are applied in our classrooms on a daily basis,” Chancellor Hawkins said. “This action signals that Troy State University is dedicated to our mission of providing quality education for our students.”
Troy State University was originally accredited by SACS in 1934.
