Art of Troy City Schools students to be featured at TSU’s Malone Gallery

Several hundred pieces of art, ranging from drawings and paintings to photography and sculpture will line the walls of Troy State University’s Malone Gallery of Fine Arts March 3-8, as the gallery hosts an exhibit of artwork from Troy City School students.
Pam Smith, an art teacher at Charles Henderson High School, said the exhibit will include a variety of works from all age levels- elementary, middle and high school students.
"I think it really helps the students’ self esteem to see their artwork displayed in a gallery like this," Smith said. "I always display some of my students’ work in the classroom, but to see it hanging on display in public gives their work a special significance and makes them feel very excited."
Smith encouraged the public to take advantage of this opportunity to support the work of area students.
"We would like for the community to come out for this exhibit," Smith said. "This is an excellent opportunity for the community to see the work that our students are doing. We will have art hanging from the ceiling to the floor. It is a really fun event."
The Malone Gallery is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. A special opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on March 4. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
