Troy State University names Chancellor’s Fellows for 2003
Three staff members within the Troy State University System have been named Chancellor’s Fellows for 2003.
Fellows chosen were David White of University College, Edward A. Pappanastos and Mac Adkins of Troy State University.
Jack Hawkins Jr., chancellor, began the program in 1995 to increase full time faculty and staff knowledge and understanding of the programs and operations of the TSU system, Dr. Shirley Woodie, director of the Institute for Leadership Skills, said.

  • Dr. White is the site director at Fort Benning, Ga. and associate regional director for Graduate Studies, Southeast Region, University College. Dr. White says the Fellowship Program will help in developing leaders who can turn great vision into great reality. He also says leaders can and will be brought in from outside the system, but they can also be grown from inside. "Working with these leaders will be both professionally rewarding and personally satisfying. I am personally committed to this university and its exciting future," Dr. White said.
Dr. Pappanastos is the assistant professor of Information Systems at TSU. Dr. Pappanastos says his participation in this program will provide him with new administrative and organizational skills that he can apply to various activities in which he is involved within the Sorrell College of Business. "It is my hope that participation in this program will increase my knowledge and understanding of the programs and operations of the Troy State University System," Dr. Pappanastos said.
  • Dr. Adkins is the dean of Distance Learning at TSU. Dr. Adkins says that the primary benefit of the program will be receiving first-hand experience of the higher education leadership process. He says he will be able to spend significant time with the leadership of the TSU System and through this interaction he will gain insight into the operations of the TSU System as well as higher education in the state and national contexts. "The Fellowship program would provide me with another level of experience and subsequent knowledge to empower me to be a more effective leader," Dr. Adkins said.
