TSU Students Celebrate Martin Luther King,Jr.

Troy State University students will be celebrating the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. Jan. 12 – Jan. 15. Freshman Forum has planned the celebration in an effort to remember the life of Martin Luther King Jr.

Wednesday, Jan.15 a Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial program featuring Alabama Sen. Rodger Smitherman will be held at 7 p.m. in the Adams Center Theater.

Smitherman is serving his third term in the Senate. He graduated from the University of Montevallo with a B.B.A. degree and with honors from Miles Law School with a Juris Doctorate Degree.

Smitherman will talk about the injustices Martin Luther King Jr. faced.

Other activities for the week are as followed:

  • Sunday, Jan. 12 the Troy State University Gospel Choir and the Macedonia 17th St. Baptist Church Choir will perform at 5 p.m. in Troy State University’s Claudia Crosby Theater. Monday, Jan. 13 is Unity Day. TSU students will have the chance to sign a non-discrimination pledge in the Adams Center Lobby from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Jan. 14 a prayer service will be held at 11:15 a.m. on the Bibb Graves Quad.
