TSU, McCollough Institute partnership to enhance educational mission
The Troy State University Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion is joining forces with the McCollough Institute for Appearance and Health in Gulf Shores to base a faculty member full time at the institute.
University and the McCollough Institute,” said Dr. Edith Smith, Associate Professor of Kinesiology and Health Promotion. “The faculty member will be involved in the institute’s programs day-to-day, and will also oversee our interns and give our students that real-world experience they need.”
Dr. Smith added that the instructor will also act as an off-campus lecturer and teach undergraduate classes via the Internet or on site at the McCollough Institute.
The McCollough Institute was founded by Enterprise native, Dr. Gaylon McCollough, and offers a staff of professionals representing the medical, surgical, aesthetic, and fitness fields dedicated to helping people reach their highest potential for living a healthier and longer life.
About the new partnership, Dr. McCollough said, “We are pleased to team up with Troy State, a university known around the world for its commitment to excellence in health and human enhancement services. TSU’s alliance with the McCollough Institute in Gulf Shores, Alabama will allow both institutions to provide research and clinical opportunities for many of the university’s top students. I believe that, together, we can find ways to help people from all walks of life, look, feel and perform better…longer.”
Dr. Smith added that the partnership will also present enhanced opportunities for research projects for other members of the TSU faculty, as well as give the faculty and students a venue to present their research in areas such as health, wellness and corporate fitness.
Dr. Don Jeffrey, Dean of the College of Health and Human Services, said Michael Green, a former TSU cross-country standout and honors graduate, will fill the instructor position. Green holds the master’s degree in sport and fitness management from TSU.
“We are working to create these partnerships in order to ensure than our students get the best possible practical training,” Dr. Jeffrey said. “This agreement with the McCollough Institute is a major step forward for our program.”
