TSU Summer Band to combine with Southeast Community Band for concert
The Troy State University “Sound of the South” Summer Band will join forces with the Southeast Community Band to present a concert Wednesday, June 18, beginning at 8:30 p.m. at the Claudia Crosby Theater.
The public is invited to attend this free concert, which will also be attended by more than 350 high school musicians attending the Sound of the South Summer Music Camp, according to Ralph Ford, TSU Director of Bands.
Two members of the National Bandmasters Hall of Fame will serve as guest conductors of the combined orchestra, as Ford will be joined by retired Col. John Bourgeois, former director of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Corps Band, and Dr. John M. Long, Director Emeritus of Bands at TSU. Dr. Long also conducts the Southeast Community Band, which includes many TSU alumni.
Ford said the concert will include all types of music. Highlights will include “Tulsa” by Don McGinnis, Dr. Long conducting “Carnival of Venice” by Herbert C. Clarke and Col. Bourgeois conducting “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
