   TSU bands, chamber choir to present concert to open St. Patrick’s celebration week

   Three ensembles from the John M. Long School of Music will provide a concert of tunes with Irish roots on Monday, March 10, as Troy State University kicks off is annual Alumni, Parents and Friends/ St. Patrick’s Day celebration.
   The "Irish Celebration" concert is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Claudia Crosby Theater. The general public, as well as faculty, staff and students, are encouraged to attend and admission is free.
   The Chamber Winds, Chamber Choir and the "Sound of the South" Concert Band are scheduled to perform a total a 13 pieces. Concert highlights for each ensemble are:
   · The Chamber Winds’ portion of the program will include "Molly on the Shore" by Percy Grainger, which is based on a group of ancient Irish melodies. The Chamber Winds will be conducted by Ralph Ford, Director of Bands at TSU.
   · The Chamber Choir’s seven-song performance will include a rendition of the Irish standard “Danny Boy” and “”Will Ye Go?” and original arrangement by Paul McGahie, Director of Choral Activities.
   · The Concert Band’s selections include "Ireland: A True Irish Medley" by Warren Baker, which includes five of the most familiar Irish melodies.

   The concert kicks off a weeklong St. Patrick’s celebration that will culminate with a full weekend of events to welcome alumni, parents and friends of TSU to campus. Highlights of the weekend include a St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 15 beginning at 11 a.m. The parade route will run down University Avenue through the heart of the campus.
   The T-Day game begins at 1 p.m., at Richard M. Scrushy Field at Memorial Stadium. There is no admission charge for T-Day.
   The day’s events will include the annual reunion dinner and the presentation of the Distinguished Leadership Award, scheduled this year for the ballrooms of the Trojan Center, beginning at 6 p.m. Cost for the reunion dinner is $20. The TSU Choral Department is planning a concert to begin at 8 p.m. in the Claudia Crosby Theater. Admission is free.
