Two TSU students to intern with Lloyd’s of London
Two Troy State University seniors majoring in risk management and insurance will intern with the world’s leading insurance market, Lloyd’s of London.
Nick Abraham of Prattville and Jonathan McKenzie of Foley, will fly to London May 9. They will be working and living in London May 9-21.
The two students found out about the internship from Dr. Carol Jordan, Eminent Scholar of Risk Management and Insurance at TSU. Dr. Jordan teaches in London every summer and believes this would be a good opportunity for the two students.
“From time to time, Lloyd’s is pleased to be able to offer internships to qualifying university students,” according to Darragh Gray, Manager, International Promotion for Lloyd’s of London. “We are especially pleased to welcome two students from Troy State University this year because their insurance curriculum includes study of the United States Surplus Lines market where Lloyd’s is the market leader.”
Both seniors are looking forward to the internship. “The best thing is the experience,” McKenzie told the TSU student newspaper, The Tropolitan. “Having firsthand experience putting textbook knowledge to work.”
“This is great professional development,” Abraham said. “To work there is a prestigious honor.”
The two will return to their schoolwork when their internship is over. McKenzie is scheduled to graduate in the fall, and Abraham is scheduled to graduate in spring of 2004.
McKenzie serves as Student Government Association President and has been involved with Baptist Campus Ministries. He is a member of Farmhouse Fraternity.
Abraham served on Freshman Forum and has been a residence assistant. He is serving as Vice President of Campus Activities for the Student Government Association and was recently elected as next year’s SGA President.
