TSU plans orientation sessions for new students
Troy State University has scheduled eight orientation sessions for new students in July and August, according to Susan Pierce, Director of Student Development/Counseling.
The two-day orientation sessions—called IMPACT at TSU—will begin July 16, Pierce said. Invitations to attend IMPACT are mailed to students who have been accepted for fall semester and reservations must be made prior to attending orientation. Because the first freshman session is filled, Pierce said the earliest openings for incoming freshmen are available in the session scheduled for July 21-22. About 300 students have already registered to attend the orientation sessions.
Pierce said IMPACT is designed to introduce students to college life, with meetings on academic planning, extracurricular involvement, residence hall life and college “survival” skills.
“Orientation is much more than giving campus tours and handing out T-shirts,” Pierce said. “We provide incoming freshmen with information they need to make a smooth transition to college life. And, we provide a fun introduction to the place that will be their home for the next few years.”
Pierce added that IMPACT also includes a pair of one-day sessions for students who are transferring to TSU from other schools.
   The IMPACT 2003 schedule:

  • Session One—July 16-17; Session Two—July 18 (transfer students); Session Three—July 21-22; Session Four—July 23-24; Session Five July 28-29; Session Six—July 30-31; Session Seven—Aug. 4 (transfer students)
  • Session Eight—Aug. 11-12 (for any new students unable to attend any of the earlier sessions).
