Students, friends invited to join TSU Choral Alumni Association
The John M. Long School of Music program at Troy State University has unveiled its plans to create the TSU Choral Alumni Association.
Membership is open to any TSU alumnus that has previous experience in at least one of the school's choral ensembles, as well as to the spouse, parents and family of that alumnus. The parents and families of current students are also invited to join, as are the program's community and business supporters.
More than 900 notifications have already been mailed to possible members.
“For years we have wanted an alumni association, and now, in this time of low budgets, we have the manpower to make this happen,” said Dr. William Denison, Director of the TSU School of Music.
Those who join before March 6, 2004 will be considered founding members of the organization and will have their names inscribed on a commemorative plaque to be displayed in Smith Hall.
Membership benefits include receiving advanced notification of all concerts and activities on the choral program's schedule, opportunities to network with other TSU choral graduates, and the chance to be a part of the growth of the TSU Choral Music program. By joining, a member will also receive four free tickets to the Choral Masterworks performance.
“There are lots of advantages to having an alumni association,” said Faith Ward, Director of Alumni Affairs. “Whether it is by networking, or just getting in touch with old friends, an alumni association can benefit people in different ways.”
Annual dues will be $25 per member, $10 of which will go towards the funding of an annual Choral Alumni Association Scholarship. The cost for members of the Band Alumni Association will be only $15, in addition to their regular band association dues.
The first Choral Alumni Association Banquet will be held Saturday, March 6, 2004 at 6 p.m., in recognition of the organization's founding members and newly elected officers. The first Choral Alumni Vocal Scholarship will also be awarded.
“I am really excited to meet all of our alumni that have sung in the choral program,” said Paul McGahie, Director of Choral Activities at TSU.
