| TSU
worldwide enrollment sets record |
Troy
State University is approaching the 24,000 mark in enrollment for the
first time, according to data released by the university today.
TSU's enrollment worldwide is 23,896, a 7.68 percent increase over
fall semester 2002. The record numbers are cause for optimism, according to Dr.
Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor.
“This growth affirms that we are providing the high-quality
education and exceptional services that attract students, both traditional-age
students and adults,” Dr. Hawkins said. “We are proud that every
TSU campus in Alabama realized some growth, and that our University College enrollment
topped 10,000 students for the first time.”
University College operates TSU campuses outside of Alabama—without
receiving any state support—in 16 U.S. states and 10 nations. This fall,
University College enrolled 10,161 students, a 7.6 percent increase over fall
2002.
The Troy campus reported a total enrollment of 6,601, including
the nursing outreach program and distance-learning students, a 6.5 percent increase
over fall 2002. Overall, TSU's four campuses in Alabama grew by 7.74 percent
over fall 2002.
The largest percentage growth took place at the branch campus
in Phenix City, which enrolled 1,473 students, a 12.8 percent increase over fall
2002. Right behind was the Montgomery campus, which enrolled 3,762 students for
a 12 percent increase, while the Dothan campus enrolled 1,899 for a .4 percent
increase over fall 2002.
“This across-the-board growth provides an excellent
base on which to continue to build a worldwide university,” Dr. Hawkins
said. “It's also important that Troy State University is growing during
a time of diminishing state financial support.”
