Sabrina Foster wins McKinley Award at Troy State University
Sabrina Foster, a Housing Specialist in the Department of Housing and Residence Life at Troy State University and a TSU alumna, is the winner of the Vergil Parks McKinley Award for October.
Foster, who graduated from TSU in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in history and in 2001 with a master's degree in counseling and psychology, received the award during a ceremony in Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr., Chancellor, presented the award to Foster, who was nominated by Herbert Reeves, Director of Student Services.
The McKinley Award, the highest honor that TSU gives to a non-faculty staff member, is presented monthly to an employee who has demonstrated outstanding attitude, innovation and work ethic. The award was established by former Texaco CEO John McKinley in honor of his father, Vergil Parks McKinley, who was a TSU professor during the early 20th century and was key to the development of the university's athletic program. Award winners receive an engraved clock and a $350 stipend.
The letter described Foster as “an unsung hero” of Troy State University. “Loyalty, dedication, honesty and initiative are all words to describe Sabrina,” the letter said. “She is always able to maintain her composure and work through difficult situations. Sabrina is an unsung hero who does her job very well, never seeking recognition for a job well done.”
Foster, a resident of Troy, said she was surprised, but honored to receive the award. “I am extremely happy to have received the McKinley Award. It was a real surprise, but I am truly honored,” she said.
