Troy State University Nursing Program announces staff changes
   Dr. Bernita Hamilton has been named Director of the School of Nursing at Troy State University effective Jan. 1.
    Dr. Hamilton, who currently serves as director of TSU's master's nursing program, will replace Dr. Brenda Riley, who will be retiring. Dr. Geraldine Allen, an assistant professor in the master's program, will replace Dr. Hamilton as director of the program.
    Dr. Hamilton, a native of Thomasville, received her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Alabama-Birmingham before joining the TSU faculty as an assistant professor. She left TSU to pursue a Ph.D. in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia and teach at Georgia Southern University. She returned to the TSU faculty in 2000. She is a member of the American Nurses' association, the National Association of School Nurses and Sigma Theta Tau, an international nursing honor society. She and her husband, Bob, live in Greenville with their children, Jennifer and Taylor.
    Dr. Allen received her bachelor's and master's degrees from TSU and her doctorate from UAB. She also completed the Family Nurse Practitioner program at TSU.
    In 1992, Dr. Allen began teaching as an Assistant Professor in the bachelor's nursing program's Mobility Program at TSU's Montgomery campus. She later taught at the graduate level and for two years served as the master's nursing program coordinator of the Montgomery campus. She currently serves as the lead instructor for the acute care courses at TSU. In addition, she is a legal nurse consultant and also the President of the Allen-Health Related Consultant firm.
    She and her husband, Robert, have one son, Robert Jr.
