TSU to dedicate new student recreation facility Nov. 22
   Troy State University will dedicate its newest building, a student recreation facility, with a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 22, beginning at 9 a.m.
    The facility is located at the corner of Elm Street and College Drive. It will be used for recreational activities, intramural sports and other student activities.
    Scheduled to speak at the ceremony are Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor; John Schmidt, Vice Chancellor for Student Services; Nick Abraham, President of the TSU Student Government Association and Jessica Smith, Chair of the University Activities Council.
    The 15,200-square foot building includes one large basketball court and two mid-size courts. A cardiovascular workout room will have four elliptical machines, two treadmills, two bikes, one stair machine, and one multi-station weight machine. There will be no free weights.
    The facility also includes a dance/ aerobic room will also be located in the recreational center. Separate men's and women's showers and dressing rooms will be provided.
    “This is a much-needed addition to our facilities for students,” Shea Phillips, Director of Student Services, said. “Over the past few years we have worked to improve our recreation facilities with new tennis courts and a fitness complex in the student center. This will give us more ways to serve our students.
    Hours of operation are: Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Fridays it will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday through Sunday, 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
