Lyn Thomas wins McKinley Award at Troy State University
Lyn Thomas, Accounting Specialist in the Office of Accounting Services at Troy State University, is the winner of the Vergil Parks McKinley Award for November.
Thomas, who has been employed by TSU since October 1999, received the award during a ceremony in Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor on Tuesday, Nov. 18. Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr., Chancellor, presented the award to Foster, who was nominated by Bryan Helms, director of Accounting Services.
The McKinley Award, the highest honor that TSU gives to a non-faculty staff member, is presented monthly to an employee who has demonstrated outstanding attitude, innovation and work ethic. The award was established by former Texaco CEO John McKinley in honor of his father, Vergil Parks McKinley, who was a TSU professor during the early 20th century and was key to the development of the university's athletic program. Award winners receive an engraved clock and a $350 stipend.
In a letter of nomination, Helms described Thomas as “the most dedicated employee with whom I have worked.”
“Her attention to detail, work ethic and efficiency are a joy to behold,” the letter said. “Lyn is also eager to assist other employees within our department. Her attitude each day brightens our work area and lifts the spirits of others. When I think of Lyn, excellence comes to mind. She is definitely an associate worthy of recognition.”
“I'm truly surprised and grateful,” said Thomas, a Troy resident. “Knowing that the people around you appreciate the job you do is a great feeling and receiving this award is such an honor.”
