Irish dancing troupe to perform in Troy Sept. 29
The Troy Arts Council is sponsoring a performance by “Common Ground,” an Irish step-dancing group, on Monday Sep. 29, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the Troy State University campus.
Common Ground features a 12-dancer revue and uses traditional music to take the audience through the history of Ireland during the potato famine of 1848 and the evolution of Irish dance and music into present-day American forms.
Lorraine Rennie, creator and producer of Common Ground, formed the troupe in 1998 to highlight the similarities between Irish dancing and American forms of tapping and clogging.
The show was described by one reviewer as “Riverdance meets Stomp and Tap Dogs.” It played 18 cities its first season and 58 cities in its second. Now in its fourth season, Common Ground will play 75 cities this year.
Tickets for the show are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Call the John M. Long School of Music at 334-670-3322 for more information or to purchase tickets.
