September 8, 2003 TSU to present first 'Global Access Project' speaker on Friday Troy State University will present its’ first
speaker in conjunction with the U.S. State Department’s “Global
Access Project” on Friday, Sept. 12. Hyo-Sung Kim, a native of South Korea and a TSU graduate student in education, will lecture on the language and history of Korea beginning at 3 p.m. in room 124 of McCall Hall of the Math and Science Complex. The “Global Access Project” was created by the U.S. Department of State in order to increase knowledge of American foreign policy and international issues as well as to encourage careers in civil and foreign services at the U.S. Department of State. TSU is one of 11 universities nationwide chosen to participate in the project. This lecture is the first of a series of five events. “This lecture is one piece of the puzzle, which will
inform the community and give them a better understanding of Korean culture,” said
Dr. Scott Nokes, director of Upper Division Literature at TSU. The lecture is open to the public, while it is aimed at the students of TSU. “Since the Troy area is about to have thousands of Koreans
moving into the area (through the location of a Hyundai automobile plant near
Montgomery) it would be great for the community to come learn about their future
neighbor’s culture,” Dr. Nokes said. Contact: |
