Nailen appointed to Troy State University Board of Trustees
Dothan businessman C. Charles Nailen, Jr., has been appointed to the Troy State University Board of Trustees by Gov. Bob Riley.
Nailen’s appointment will go to the Alabama Senate for approval. Nailen is the president and owner of GGG Foods, Inc. and BBG Specialty Foods, Inc., which operates 30 KFC and seven Taco Bell franchises in Alabama, Georgia and Florida.
He has been an active support of TSU, serving as a member of the TSU Foundation Board of Directors. He also served as the chair for the Troy State University Dothan capital campaign.
“Mr. Nailen will be an asset to our board of trustees,” Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor, said. “Because he serves on our Foundation Board, Mr. Nailen understands our international mission and our long-time role of serving the United States military. His leadership in the business community will assist us as we continue to foster economic development for southeast Alabama and beyond.”
Nailen is a member of The Wiregrass United Way and has served as chairman, board of directors and campaign chairman. He is on the Board of Directors for Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Alabama and is on the Governor’s Task Force on Military Affairs.
He has been honored as the Small Business Person of the Year by The Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce and the Community Service Award by Troy State University Dothan. Nailen was given the Community Hero Award by the Business Council of Alabama and the Commander’s Award for Public Service by the Garrison Commander, Fort Rucker.
Nailen and his wife, Kay, have two children, Meredith and Charles.
Nailen will fill the at-large position on the board of trustees. The TSU board is composed of 10 members appointed by Congressional district, with two trustees chosen from the 2nd Congressional District where TSU is located. In addition, Gov. Riley and Superintendent of Education Ed Richardson serve on the board by virtue of their positions, and the Student Government Association President is a non-voting member of the board.
