Annual Accountancy Day scheduled for Sept. 1 at Troy University

Troy University ’s Accountancy Day, where top accounting students and alumni are recognized, has been scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 1.

“The Accountancy Day program is designed to honor our students and to provide an interesting program for those who have so generously supported our accounting program,” said Thomas A. Ratcliffe, the director of the School of Accountancy .    The morning portion of the program will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Bibb Graves 238 and 232 with “Practitioners in the Classroom,” a series of speakers who will speak to students with the goal of “bridging the gap between the practice of accounting and accounting academia.”

There will also be a practitioner and guest reception held throughout the morning from 8:30-11:30 in Bibb Graves 138.

The awards luncheon will be held at noon in the Trojan Center ballrooms to recognize the top accounting students and the Outstanding Young Alumnus award recipient.  Also, three more members will be inducted into the Accounting Hall of Honor during the awards portion of the luncheon.

Last year’s award recipients included Jon Heath of Ernst and Young, winner of the Young Alumnus of the Year. The 2003 inductees in the hall of honor were Joseph S. Sport of Ernst and Young, James W. Woodall of BellSouth in Atlanta and J. Lamar Harris of the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy.
