Troy University student crowned Miss Alabama Agriculture
Troy University Sophomore April Dawn Hawthorne was recently crowned Miss Alabama Agriculture during the closing session of the 83rd annual meeting of the Alabama Farmers Federation Dec. 6 in Mobile .
Hawthorne, the daughter of Steve and Melody Hawthorne of Kinston, represented Pike County in the pageant. As the winner, she received a $2,000 scholarship and the use of a 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer for the next year. Hawthorne will represent Alfa and the state’s agriculture industry.
A junior majoring in print journalism and public relations, Hawthorne is president of the Advertising and Public Society at TROY and vice president public relations for the Kappa Delta sorority. She is a Chancellor’s Scholarship recipient and a Trojan Ambassador.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to serve as an ambassador in the upcoming year for the agriculture industry of Alabama ,” Hawthorne said. “I could not have made it this far without Steve Stroud and his wife Valerie of the Pike County Young Farmers Federation. They have helped me so much as Miss Pike County Agriculture.”
