TSU closes out Black History Month with a silent march

The Troy State University chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity will sponsor a silent candlelight march on Feb. 29 at 6 p.m. beginning at the Trojan fountain on the new Bibb Graves Quadrangle.

The march route goes around campus and ends at the amphitheater where a rally will be held to celebrate black history and civil rights.

“We want to honor all those who fought for our civil rights,” said Luis Escalante, social activities director and treasurer of Phi Beta Sigma. “We want to show honor and respect and appreciation for everything that was done, which is why we've chose to have it be a silent march. In the marches during the Civil Rights movement people were singing and praising and talking and there was a lot of activity. In this march we simply want to remember them. We'll have singing and praising at the rally once we get to the amphitheater.”

The rally is open to all TSU faculty, staff and students, as well as the general public
