TSU's Hall School of Journalism to host Southeast Journalism Conference

More than 300 university faculty and students from around the southeast will visit Troy State University Feb. 19-21 to learn about all aspects of journalism in today's society.

TSU has been chosen as the site for the 18 th annual Southeast Journalism Conference, according to Jeff Spurlock , 2004 President of the SEJC and assistant professor of journalism at TSU.

Keynote speakers for the conference include M. Stanton Evans, noted journalist and author, and Rod Nachman, defense attorney in The New York Times vs. Sullivan landmark U.S. Supreme Court case. Also speaking will be Troy State University alumni and professors of the Hall School of Journalism as well as print and broadcast journalists from throughout the southeast.

In addition to the speakers, the conference will offer 12 competitions for students and more than 20 workshops on communications including ethics, media law and public relations.

Students from 60 colleges and universities from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee are expected to attend the conference.This will be the first time the Hall School of Journalism has hosted the event.

"We're very excited about this year's conference," Spurlock said. "We have great speakers lined up and we hope everyone who attends will be thinking this was the best SEJC conference they've attended."
