to Hold King Remembrance Prayer and Freedom Week Activities |
The
Troy State University Student Government Association, National Pan-Hellenic
Council and the Freshman Forum are sponsoring Freedom Week 2004 at
TSU with activities planned for Jan. 21-22 in remembrance of Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr.
The main event for the week is the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
remembrance prayer scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Jan. 22 on the Bibb Graves quadrangle.
Candle bags will be available for those who wish to honor
someone who has been influential in their lives. The person's name will be written
on the bag and placed around the new quad fountain. Bags can be obtained in the
Trojan Center between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. through Thursday.
“Dr. King influenced so many people and in order to
honor him for that, we wanted to have people honor those who have made a difference
in their lives,” said Barbara Patterson, Director of Student Involvement
and Leadership for TSU. “We're also excited because this will be the first
event held on the new quad.”
Also scheduled is the “Express Yourself Talent Show” for
students, faculty and staff beginning Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. in the Trojan Center
Ballrooms. Both events are free.
