July 20, 2004 Troy University Senior Vice Chancellor honored as Distinguished Citizen Award winner by fraternity Dr. Cameron Martindale, senior vice chancellor for advancement and external relations at Troy University , has been honored by the international social fraternity Alpha Gamma Delta, with its Distinguished Citizen Award. Dr. Martindale received the award Sunday, July 18, at an awards banquet at the fraternity’s Centennial International Convention in Chicago . Only three Alpha Gamma Delta alumnae are chosen each year to receive the Distinguished Citizen Award, which honors recipients for outstanding professional achievement. Dr. Martindale, a Montgomery resident, has served Troy University for 20 years and is senior vice chancellor for advancement and external relations as well as president of the University’s Montgomery Campus. She received her baccalaureate degree from Southern Illinois University, where she was a member of the Beta Eta Chapter Alpha Gamma Delta. She earned her doctorate in education from Auburn University and her master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma . She is active in state and community affairs, serving as a member of the Board of Directors for the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, the Business Council of Alabama, the Montgomery Area Committee of 100 and the Montgomery Area Business Committee for the Arts. She also chaired the 2004 Montgomery Jubilee CityFest. “I am deeply grateful of this high honor that you have bestowed upon me today,” Dr. Martindale said Sunday upon accepting the award. In reflecting on her sorority
experience as a college student, Dr. Martindale told the nearly 1,000 attending, “Alpha
Gamma Delta taught me that high academic excellence does not stand alone. It
must be undergirded by high ideals, personal ethics and unflinching resolve.” |
