Troy University student receives music scholarship
   Troy University graduate Thomas Newman has received $10,000 in scholarship money for his upcoming MFA study at NYU- Tisch School of the Arts in writing and composing musical theatre.
    Newman, a December 2003 graduate of Troy University from Hawkinsville , Ga. And has won several awards and honors during his undergraduate career. Earlier this year he received the O'Neill Music Theatre Conference Fellowship award and the NST Festival Fellowship award. He was chosen as the outstanding senior scholar by the Troy chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, a national honor society. He also received Outstanding Music Graduate award. Newman, a graduate of Hawkinsville High School , received the William Denison Scholastic Achievement Award and was named to Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities.
    Newman also composed the score for the Troy University production of “Antigone,” which was invited as one of six productions to showcase at the ACTF Region IV Festival at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in February. Troy University is the only school in the region to have two performances showcased in consecutive years.
    The Tisch School of Arts was established in 1965 and considered as one of the top art schools in the country. The school enrolls 3,200 students in 14 programs and departments, offering undergraduate and graduate degrees through three major institutes: the Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television , the Skirball Center for New Media and the Institute of Performing Arts .
