Tommy Newman to Perform at Troy University
   Troy University ’s award-winning graduate Tommy Newman will perform at Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 19 in a benefit performance to help raise money to defray his upcoming expenses at New York University ’s Tisch School for the Arts.
   There is no admission fee, but donations will be accepted.
   Newman will be accompanied by Dr. Catherine Allard , Rob McFarland and Georgia Mallory. The group will be performing on a variety of musical theatre and excerpts featuring Newman’s original music.
   Newman, a native of Hawkinsville , Ga. , has performed in several musicals at Troy University including “A Tribute to Charles Schultz,” “Godspell,” “Into the Woods” and “She Loves Me.” Newman has also written music for “Conecuh People,” “Godspell” and “Antigone.” He will begin graduate studies at NYU fall semester.
   Newman graduated with highest honors in December 2003 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Music Education. Newman was also a member of “The Sound of the South” marching band, the Symphonic Band and the Collegiate Singers. He was also a founding member of the Opera Ensemble, the Chamber Choir and the Glasshouse.
