TSU plans National Alcohol Screening Day April 14
Troy State University will participate in the National Alcohol Screening Day on Wednesday, April 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during TSU’s annual Spring Fling.
The program will offer students the opportunity to learn where to draw the line when it comes to alcohol consumption, according to Susan Pierce , Director of Student Development.
The students go through a brief self-assessment that asks them about their drinking habits and if their behaviors change when they drink.  A health professional will be available for one-on-one conversation opportunities.
“The focus of National Alcohol Screening Day is to give students the facts they need to draw the line for themselves,” Pierce said. “Most students drink responsibly, but too many do not realize the potential costs of at-risk drinking, the signs of alcohol poisoning, or how even a moderate amount of alcohol can interact with common medications and affect academic or athletic performance.”
National Alcohol Screening Day is a program of the nonprofit Screening for Mental Health funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
