Accrediting organization cites Troy University athletic training program

The Troy University Department of Athletic Training has received notice from a national agency that specialized academic accreditation has been reaffirmed for the department through 2010.

The agency, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is the largest programmatic/specialized accreditor in the health sciences field. It granted Troy University 's Department of Athletic Training its original accreditation in 1997.

John Anderson, Associate Professor and Director of the Department of Athletic Training, said the CAAHEP notification is good news for his department.

“We were pleased that we received the maximum of seven years,” Anderson said. “That is a real indicator of the quality of our department. I understand that few schools are granted the maximum.

Anderson said the visiting team from CAAHEP conducted a three-day site visit at Troy last year. The accrediting process also includes a thorough self-study prepared by the department.

“The site visit takes into account the credentials of faculty, student performance, the curriculum, the condition of our facilities, in short, everything we have to do to operate the department,” Anderson said.
