Press Release
May 14, 2004 Trojan Summer Music Games to benefit ‘Sound of the South' Troy University 's Movie Gallery Stadium will be alive with the sound of music on July 14, as the Trojan Summer Music Games return to campus. The games—featuring some of the finest drum and bugle corps in the nation— offer a slightly different sound than the standard marching band fare. The event was last held in Troy in 1999. The games, which are part of Drum Corps International's summer tour, will begin at 7 p.m. The corps use only brass, percussion and color guard to create an exciting blend of music and choreography, according to Ginger Zingara, a member of the University's music faculty and the coordinator for the games. Each corps is composed of high school and college band students age 14 to 21 who are chosen through auditions. “Fans of marching band music will want to mark their calendars for this event,” Zingara said. “All the proceeds with benefit the ‘Sound of the South,' so we're hoping plenty of ‘Sound' fans and alumni will plan to attend.” Tickets are on sale and may be purchased through the athletic ticket box office at 1-877-TSU-WINS. Prices are $20 for premium seating; $18 for general admission and $15 per ticket if purchased as part of a package. The event will be headlined by the 2003 champion Blue Devils of Concord, Calif., as well as the Boston Crusaders, Magic of Orlando, Blue Knights of Denver, Glassmen of Toledo, Southwind of Lexington, Ky., Court of Honor of Atlanta , Memphis Sound and Teal Sound of Jacksonville, Fla.
