Troy University to host National Broadcasting Society Convention
   The Troy University chapter of the National Broadcasting Society will play host to the national organization’s Region 3 Convention on Nov. 11-13.
   Students from six area universities will have the opportunity to hear from media professionals on topics ranging from how to break into the broadcasting business to television weather forecasting.
   “We are extremely pleased to host the Region Three convention this year. This is the first year Troy University has held a National Broadcasting Society Convention,” said Jeff Spurlock, Faculty Advisor of the National Broadcasting Society.
   The convention will kick off Thursday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. with registration located in the first floor of Wallace Hall on the Troy Campus. Following registration, Vince Hodges from WRJM-TV in Troy will speak on “Breaking into Broadcasting.” The session will begin at 7 p.m. in the Troy University Television Studio located on the first floor of Wallace Hall.
   The official opening session of the convention will be on Friday, Nov. 12 beginning at 9 a.m. in the Trojan Center Ballrooms. Speaking at this session will be: Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., chancellor of Troy University ; Dr. Steve Padgett, director of Troy University ’s Hall School of Journalism; and Spurlock along with the officers of the National Broadcasting Society.
   Area media personalities such as Stefanie Hicks and Dee Jackson both of WAKA-TV in Montgomery , Doc Kirby from WTBF-FM in Troy and Buddy Johnson from WRJM-TV in Troy will be offering insights on various broadcasting topics.
    Troy University will also do a special live television newscast beginning at 12:10 p.m. on Friday to allow students to experience the behind-the-scenes work that goes into a broadcast.
   The convention will wrap up on Saturday, Nov. 11 with a National Broadcasting Society Board Meeting and Chapter Development Sessions beginning at 8 a.m. An awards luncheon will follow at 12:30 to close out the convention.
   Students from TROY , Samford University , the University of Montevallo , Alabama A&M University , Valdosta State University and Miami-Dade University will participate in the convention.
