November 9, 2004 Wayne Flynt to speak at Troy University’s McPherson-Mitchell Lecture Troy University ’s Department of History and Phi Alpha Theta chapter will present the fourth annual McPherson- Mitchell Southern history lecture series on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. in Claudia Crosby Theater with guest speaker Wayne Flynt. Dr. Flynt, a professor at Auburn University and acclaimed author, is a leading authority on Southern history. Flynt has written 11 books, including the Pulitzer-Prize nominated Poor but Proud: Alabama’s Poor Whites. Dr. Flynt’s most recent book, Alabama in the Twentieth Century, was honored with the 2004 Anne B. and James B. McMillan Prize He has also served as the president of the Southern Historical Society and the editor-in-chief of the Online Encyclopedia of Alabama. The McPherson-Mitchell lecture series is held each year to honor two former Troy University history professors, Dr. Milton McPherson and Dr. Norma Taylor Mitchell. There is no admission charge and the public is invited to attend. |
