November 15, 2004 Troy University to show appreciation for Fort Rucker on Saturday Troy

. As a part of a Salute to Veterans, Fort Rucker Appreciation Day, 1,000 tickets to the game have been provided for Fort Rucker soldiers. The game is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. In addition, an Apache Longbow helicopter will be on display next to Sartain Hall, weather permitting. The 98th Army Band, popularly known as the “Silver Wings” Band, and the Fort Rucker Color Guard will perform with Troy University ’s “Sound of the South” Marching Band. The Silver Wings Band is conducted by Chief Warrant Officer Stephen Campbell. Established in 1942 as the 40th Engineer Regiment Band, the 98th Army Band received its present designation in 1947. Its heritage includes seven campaign streamers and has been permanently stationed at 17 different locations. Troy University fans are encouraged to come out to the football game on Nov. 20 and show their support for the Trojans and their appreciation for Fort Rucker and all it means to the Wiregrass community. In addition, the game-day atmosphere will be enhanced by the Alabama National Guard’s Recruiting and Retention Command, which will have displays of military vehicles, such as the Desert Eagle decorated Humvee in the Stadium area. Exhibits provided by the National Guard also will include a NASCAR race car and booths for youth, such as a “Goal to Go” inflatable game. Tickets are available
