National Guard unit in Iraq incudes five Troy University alumni
Five members of the Alabama National Guard’s 2101st Transportation Company share more in common than their unit’s dangerous missions delivering fuel throughout the Iraqi countryside.
In addition to their duties in Iraq , Capt. Chris Amos, Sgt. John Hargray, 1st Sgt. Carl McNeece, 2nd Lt. Eric Pouncy and Sgt. Sol Tepper all are alumni of Troy University . Tepper graduated in 1989, McNeece in 1994, Amos in 1995, and Pouncy in 1999. Hargray is scheduled to graduate in 2005.
The Trojan quintet has been deployed in Iraq since Aug. 2 and has been a part of the unit’s 64 missions covering a total of more than 300,000 miles and distributing more than 3.1 million gallons of fuel.
“We have been extremely fortunate in sustaining no casualties through four attacks on our convoys so far, and I hope that trend continues,” Capt. Amos said in a recent e-mail. “Strong arms have been around us because we have been through almost every hotspot currently being patrolled.”
