Minix named director of advancement at Troy University
   William D. Minix has been named the director of advancement at Troy University .
   In the position, Minix, a native of Louisville , KY now residing in Dothan , will assist in the design and implementation of the fundraising plan for the University and is responsible for the major gifts program, as well as involved with planned giving, development services, donor relations, research and grant writing and special projects.
   Minix previously served as senior vice president of the Atlanta-based First Community Development, Inc., a position he held since 1993. While with the firm, he developed and supervised major capital advancement campaigns for public and nonprofit organizations engaged in education, economic development, health and other social services and the arts.
   From 1971-1991, Minix held various positions within state government in Kentucky, including executive director of the Kentucky Commission for Handicapped Children, deputy secretary of the Kentucky Cabinet for Human Resources, deputy commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Health, executive director of the Office of Policy and Budget, deputy commissioner of the Department for Social Insurance and deputy director of the Office of Administrative Services.
   He also served as a public health advisor for the U.S. Public Health Service from 1965-1969.
   Minix earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Berea College and holds a master’s degree in public affairs from Kentucky State University .
