October 26, 2004 Troy University student receives athletic training scholarship Shayne Laudicina, a Troy University student from Luverne, has been chosen to receive a prestigious scholarship from the American Sports Medicine Institute, according to John “Doc” Anderson, director of the Department of Athletic Training. Laudicina, the son of Debra Laudicina, is the president of Troy University’s chapter of Iota Tau Alpha, which is recognized as the first athletic training education honor society in the nation. As recipient of the American Sports Medicine Institute Scholarship for the 2004-2005 year, Laudicina will receive $1,000 toward his academic expenses. The scholarship will be presented to Laudicina in December at the scholarship reception. Laudicina’s scholarship is the latest in a long line of honors for Troy University ’s athletic training students. Since the inception of the program 10 years ago, students have received more than $4 million in scholarships. Troy University
graduates
have served as athletic trainers for numerous college and professional athletic
programs, including the New York Yankees’ minor-league system, the Tampa
Bay Devil Rays’ system and the
University
of
Connecticut
women’s
basketball team, as well as numerous orthopedic clinics and sports medicine centers. |
