October 29, 2004 Troy University to offer certification program in court administration Troy University will offer a Certification Program in court administration beginning in January, according to Dr. Robert Pullen, Dean of the Troy University College of Arts and Sciences. The program will be offered through the Center for Continuing Education, Dr. Pullen said. He added that the goal of the Program is training and certification in the skills needing by modern court administrators. “Court Administration is an emerging profession that offers rewarding career opportunities for students and for others in the community,” Dr. Pullen said. “This weekend program offers specialized training in the structure of the courts, finance and budgeting, technology, case management, human resources, jury management and intergovernmental relations. Professionally trained court administrators will be in great demand over the next decade.” Dr. Pullen said Allen Tapley, former Administrative Director of Courts for the State of Alabama , is working with Troy University to develop the Program and curriculum. Tapley, along with judges, attorneys, district attorneys, and court administrators will teach the continuing education Program. “Allen Tapley has been a leader in judicial administration and court reform for more than 25 years,” said Dr. Ed Stevens, who coordinates the program through the Troy University Department of Criminal Justice and Social Sciences. “During his tenure at the Administrative Office of Courts, the State of Alabama developed a unified court system that other states have used as a model for court management.” The Program will be offered on weekends, Saturdays and Sundays, beginning Jan. 8 on the Troy University campus. The program will continue through the weekend of March 12.
