October 29, 2004 Troy University to kick off Homecoming Week activities on Monday Troy University will kick off a week of homecoming activities on Monday with a “Salute to the Armed Forces,” at noon on the main quad near the Trojan statue fountain. Under the theme, “Give My Regards to TROY: A Broadway Homecoming,” this year’s homecoming celebration will feature a variety of events culminating with the crowning of the homecoming queen, recognition of the Alumni of the Year and Honorary Alum and the football game against Florida Atlantic in Movie Gallery Stadium on Nov. 6. Pre-game festivities are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., and the game will kick off at 2:30 p.m. Monday’s observance, which is sponsored by the National Alumni Association, is a way to pay tribute to those presently serving in the armed forces, as well as veterans and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, according to Faith Ward, director of alumni affairs at Troy . “This will be a way for everyone to appreciate war veterans, as well as those who gave their lives for the country,” Ward said. The event will include the presentation of colors by the University’s ROTC Color Guard, greetings by Student Government Association President Ryan Spry, special remarks by Lt. Col. W.S. Cooke of Air Force ROTC and Maj. Ken Coon of Army ROTC. Sheila Jackson will sing “God Bless America ,” and Caleb Baxley will conclude the armed forces salute by playing Taps. This year also will mark the 50th anniversary of the TROY ’s Homecoming parade. The parade is scheduled for Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. Other activities during the week include widow and office decoration contests on campus, a pep rally on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium and a reunion for World War II era alumni on Friday night.
